Baldwinsville's 'Destiny'


In about six months the Baldwinsville business district will open its latest addition, the long awaited inn at the Mercer Mill site.
The 175-year-old mill on Paper Mill Island has been the subject of uncertain speculation for years. On a smaller scale, the project has been similar to the Destiny project in Syracuse, leaving Baldwinsville residents questioning whether improvements would ever be made to the aged structure. Move over Congel, because current owners Jake McKenna and Jay Bernhardt have announced they will deliver the completed Mercer Mill project on May 1, 2006. more...

High winds take shot at renovation project


It leaves most people in Baldwinsville excited, the project to turn the old, dilapidated Paper Mill into a 32 room inn. Over the last month, the building has been hit with rain and then, this week, wind, high wind running unabated down the Seneca River.
"We had a couple of small walls that got knocked down by the wind, but it was insignificant. An hours worth of work to stand them back up and continue on," said Jake McKenna with Parsons-McKenna Construction. more...

The new owners of the former Mercer Mill say Jim Orlando's plan for an upscale inn and conference center on Paper Mill Island in Baldwinsville was unique and grand.
But they prefer a scaled-down version.
Jay Bernhardt and Jake McKenna, who purchased the 180-year-old building from Orlando and partner Tom Potter in May for $700,000, say they'll concentrate on the inn concept, with no banquet facilities, restaurant or bar. more...

BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y.- The new owners of the Mercer Mill property are looking at scaling down previous plans for the building and concentrating more on an inn concept.
Jay Bernhardt, of Liverpool, and Jake McKenna, a Van Buren resident, purchased the property in May from Jim Orlando for $700,000. At one time, Orlando and his former partners had been planning a 39-room inn with a convention center, banquet facility, restaurant and bar. more...

A local developer wants to turn an old mill into an upscale hotel. The old Mercer Mill in downtown Baldwinsville has been vacant for years.
