Also in the village, The Red Mill Inn owners Jake McKenna and Jay Bernhardt were named businesspersons of the year at the Greater Baldwinsville Chamber of Commerce annual dinner and awards ceremony. McKenna and Bernhardt purchased the former Mercer Mill building in May 2005 and transformed the dilapidated structure into an upscale inn and conference center that opened in May 2006. more...

Walking along the village's Paper Mill Island, you can readily spot carp frequently jumping right out of the water. Hundreds of fish visible to the owners of the newly constructed Red Mill Inn attracted the interest of the American Carp Society. It was a familiar sight, to anyone who has ever watched chinooks and cohos porpoising at the surface of a rain-swollen pool before continuing upstream toward their Salmon River spawning grounds.

With waters from this month's heavy rains and floods receding, locks along three canals in Central New York reopened Friday.
All locks along the Oswego and Cayuga-Seneca canals are open, along with Lock 1 at the mouth of the Cayuga-Seneca Canal. Locks 23 to 25 along the Erie Canal also opened their doors. more...
