Take one very old grist mill from the early 1800s and convert it to a very comfortable 32-room hotel, and you've just described The Red Mill Inn in Baldwinsville, New York. A great deal of attention and money has gone into this endeavor sitting on Paper Mill Island between the Seneca River and the Erie Canal.
Locals and out-of-towners make the inn a regular overnight destination. The moment you walk in, you'll see why it is so popular. You will be greeted by their warm staff before you make your way to a very welcoming guest room. Each room is different. It would be hard to find any two alike. The only thing most of them have in common is the original wooden beams still in place from the original grist mill structure.
Rates range from $79 to $299, depending on the time of year and room size. There are some very impressive suites at The Red Mill Inn complete with an excellent river view. No restaurant or bar on the property is no mistake. The owners decided to enhance the area businesses and not compete with them.
Tip: If you like small, warm and cozy, try a loft room up on the 3rd floor.
Gettin' There:
Exit 39 from the NYS Thruway to Rt. I-690 North. Take the
Van Buren Exit and a right turn onto Van Buren Road. Follow
to the traffic light and a left onto route 48. Take a
right into the parking lot just after your 2nd traffic
light, just before the bridge over the river.
